I came across this from Jade's blog. It brought a smile to my face and memories of my childhood days. I miss my old childhood, back then all these were really fun then. *chuckles* Plastic Era, where we knew girls at those times accesorized themselves in plastics! I still have a bunch of those plastic bangles, colorful shoelaces to be used as ribbons to tie their hair, huge plastic button-look-alike earrings and loooong plastic beads necklaces!!

Signs that you are a 80s' baby:

You grew up watching g-force, he-man, transformers, thundercats, silver hawk, woody woodpecker, chipmunks and mickey mouse. not to forget...ninja turtles, mask rider, smurfs and voltron too. Girls watched cartoons like my little pony, jem, care bears, etc.
(Oh yeah, my favvie was Jem, the superstar girl with the star earrings. Hehehehe, and Care Bears too!! Rainbow shooting out from their stomach, LOL)

You would brush your teeth with a toothbrush & mug in primary school after recess time. You squatted by a drain with all your classmates beside you, and brushed your teeth with a colourful toothbrush & mug.
(Hehehe yeah it was Colgate at that time that sponsored the kids with toothbrushes and toothpastes.)

Remember the days when the school nurse comes with a list for dental appointments? The sound of the drilling could be heard when the dentist had to patch up your friend's (or your) tooth fillings.
(Oh yeah, I once got my tooth extracted for no reason, parents were really mad at that time!)

You remember the packets of milk we get in primary school to encourage us to drink more milk. It is only cost 30 cent per pack.
(Yeah and at times there were worms in it, icky!)

In secondary school, girls go to the library to borrow their favourite romance storybook.
(LOL, yea yea, mine was still Enid Blyton's in Secondary School, and R.L Stine and Sweet Valley High.)

In secondary school, girls altered their school skirts to shorten it and guys will go to the appointed school uniform tailor shop to tailor make their school trousers to the then fashionable "baggypants"!
(*ROFL* hmmm, well yea, we girls did that and so did the guys)

During primary school days, the teacher will punish you using a ruler to hit your palm.
(Yea, by my music teacher, but she never hits me hard like the others, she loves me... *grins*)

A bowl of noodles soup cost only 30 cent in primary school days.
(I miss my Makcik Kantin's Laksa... )

When you were in primary school, girls liked to go to the bookshop to buy cute stuff such as animal erasers, various shaped sharpeners, colourful notebooks etc.
(LOL oh yea, there were NKOTB erasers, country flags erasers, gosh I was one of them, spending every 10 cents on those!)

Hankyu Jaya and Yaohan departmental stores used to be a favourite hangout for families during weekends.
(Er, Ipoh don't have those, we had Super Kinta and Bersatu (The Store)... LOL)

In secondary school days, you buy the bata or pallas jazz school shoes. Some guys liked to wear those made-in-china ankle high shoes. Some even liked to wear those very thick socks with their school shoes.
(Oh yea, especially girl guides, those Pallas Jazz sure did made loud thumps while they were marching!)

Internet? E-mail? What is that? So you thought a decade or more ago, as you and your friends didn't have pagers or handphones in school.
(Well, yea... we went snail mail, till now, it's still lots of fun to do snail mail.)

CDs? What's that? Cassette tapes were the norm. Movie tickets used to cost less than $5.
(Hahaha yea, Tiffany, Belinda Carlisle, Kylie Minogue were my first cassette tapes!)

The goodies from the sundry shop used to be chickidees, mamee, kum kum, ding dang chocolate balls with toys in the box, colourfulhard "eggs","cigerette" bubble gum, kiki bubble gum, pink bottles of bubbles, small tubes with yellow sticks to blow "more lasting" bubbles that you can pop more air in or slam it on.
(LOL ciggarette bubble gums!!)

When exams were over, the board games & card games (e.g monopoly, snake & ladder, uno, old maid) were played! The people & games will be scattered all over the class room.
(Mine was Barbie Dolls and Donkey card game... Hehehe.)

Your favourite sound is the bell...for it's the homemade ice cream man. The cream that tops Haagan Dazs! And the other peddler you love is the old lady who sells juicy 'muah chee' & thick golden syrup rolled in a balloon at the tip of a chopstick.
(Oh yeah they only costs 20 cents for that sticky honeyed-look-alike on stick. Back then it was even yummier than what people are selling now.)

Another bell is the recess bell, a time to get away from schoolwork and to eat. another time when there is no bell but all guys will anxiously wait for is PJ/PE time (pendidikan jasmani/physical education), as it meant football time for them.
(LOL, yes)

Your favourite childhood games were playing "gu li" (marbles), five stones, bottle caps, zero-point, catching, "pepsi-cola one-two-three" and/or "police & thief"!
(Five stones were a hit among the girls back then!)

The best thirst quencher of all times is the yummy colourful icetubes you can buy from provision shops for only 10 cent. to eat them, break the tab and suck while holding the freezing tube!
(Asam Boi flavour my favvie!)

All girls have a girl doll/strawberry shortcake/my little pony/pound puppy, while all boys have a soldier figurine (combat) or a rubberband catapult that shoots folded paper! Once was the era whereby ice-cream sticks were valuable items, then came the paper aircrafts. Some boys made their own guns from wood, and used 'bacali' as the bullets. Some even used matches to shoot and burn kids' lanterns during mooncake festival.
(*ROFL* mine was Barbie Doll collections, with her house and cars.)

Your favourite holiday was lunar new year! It meant new clothes, ang pows, shopping, junk food and family outings!
(It meant long school hoilidays to me.)

Let's see...the majority of students in universities today were born in 1987/88...they are called "youth". For them, they have never heard of the song "we are the world, we are the children...". and the "uptown girl" they know is by 'westlife' but not 'billy joel'.
(Hehehehe yea and they hate MixFm and Light & Easy Fm, I always get scoldings from my bro and sis, telling me that I'm old fashioned. *Rolls Up Eyes*)

For them, there have always been only one germany and only one vietnam. AIDs existed since they were born. CDs existed since they were born. Michael Jackson is already whitened. John Travolta is always round in shape and they can't imagine how this fat guy could be a god of dance. They believe that spiderman and incredible hulk are just new films. They can never imagine a black and white screen for a computer. They never know what is 'atari' or 'game & watch'. They can't believe a black and white television ever existed and they don't even know how to switch on a tv without a remote control. And they never understand how we can go out without a mobile phone when we were in university...
(*ROFL* We knew John Travolta from Grease, they knew him from Face Off)

let's check if we're getting old...

1. You understand what was written above and you smile.
(Oh yes indeed.)

2. Most of your secondary school friends are getting married.
(Well, very few at the moment.)

3. You are always surprised to see small children playing comfortably with computer.
(Herh, I played my first game Wheel Of Fortune, they had their first game of CounterStrike.)

4. When you see schoolchildren with mobile phones, you shake your head.
(Correct! I earned my own money to buy my first handphone!! Not fair!!)

5. You spend less and less time talking on phone with your friends daily.
(LOL erm... quite true, is that a sign of old age????? I thought it was money wasting to talk rubbish.)

6. When you meet your old friends from time to time, you talk about the good old days, repeating again and again all funny stories you experienced together.
(Oh yea, it was such a sweet memory we had back then, from the innocent nerd to the cheeky girl we've became in school. Hehehe.)

7. Lastly, having read this, you are thinking of forwarding itto some other old friends. You think they will like it too!
(I bet they do!)

Never quite knew whats it like to live in the 80's (I was still swimming in my dad back then..lol) But I do know whats it like to kickass in the 90's. As per your describtion:-

You grew up watching g-force, he-man, transformers, thundercats, silver hawk, woody woodpecker, chipmunks and mickey mouse. not to forget...

At some point, the nineties child realises that MTV IS GOD and Hip-Hop is his religion. Goodbye Transformers, Hello Beyonce...

You remember the packets of milk we get in primary school to encourage us to drink more milk. It is only cost 30 cent per pack.

RM1.20 gets me a bottle of mineral water, need not say more...

In secondary school, girls go to the library to borrow their favourite romance storybook.

In the 90's, girls go to the library to make out behind the romance storybook shelf

Hankyu Jaya and Yaohan departmental stores used to be a favourite hangout for families during weekends.

Hankyou Jaya & Yaohan in the 90's is a favourite hangout for snatch theft bandits and druggies.

In secondary school days, you buy the bata or pallas jazz school shoes. Some guys liked to wear those made-in-china ankle high shoes..

in the nineties, we buy NIKE and ADIDAS snickers and hope to god the H.E.M teacher won't find out during morning assembly inspections.

    And my most memorable one...lol

When exams were over, the board games & card games (e.g monopoly, snake & ladder, uno, old maid) were played! The people & games will be scattered all over the class room..

when the exams are over, in the 90's, libraries become off-limit, classes are locked and boarded up forcing everyone into the 'Dewan' and every kid is frisked before entering school..lol

You can easily see why kids today are the way they are...haha

Well you peeps of the 90's are definately different and had lived in a posh environment.

Aik! Posh you say..?! Haha... I got RM1.00 to spend each recess in primary, it may sound a lot for the 'Eighties Child' but that was just enough to buy me a god-damned 'kacang' biscuit and a packet of syrup which tasted more like colored water...lol The only thing 'posh' we had back then in school was 'Ramli Burger' which costs a whooping RM2.10...(well beyond most kids budget lines). Our only hopes of ever tasting a piece of grub with such a hefty price tag on it was when we got the occasional 'lipas' or 'rambut' in our 50 cent 'mee goreng. We'd whine about it to the canteen keeper and in exchange for our silence about the matter to the headmaster we'd be offered a free Ramli Burger and REAL syrup....not the cheap-ass shit they sell in the "poverty stricken" side of the canteen... the good stuff!!!
